Die Ablösung | The Relief

What do you wish would come after you, once you’ll have become compost again? What will happen to your house, who will live there… does it affect you? Perhaps you’d like this place, what it meant to you, to your grandparents, to live on into the future. Would you be prepared to do something about it?
And why should you care? You are compost. Food for life.

It is a tale about a city called X that is bound to disappear in consequence of the unravelling of our environmental conditions. It is not to be flooded by rising waters, but destined to disappear by a democratically elected government, to make space for the restauration of wilderness, as part of a worldwide effort to counter biodiversity loss. It is the story of how the inhabitants of the city live and deal with the vanishing of their home, their living environment and their history. It is about resistance and radical transformation, about the way we relate with death and finiteness and about the actual possibility of a cultural change bringing us back into the loop of life on Earth.
